Dilution Calculator (C1V1 = C2V2)

Calculate the final volume and solvent to add when diluting a solution, using the C1V1 = C2V2 formula. Supports multiple concentration and volume units — 100% in your browser.

⚗️Chemistry / lab

Prepare a working solution from a concentrated stock. Example: you have 100 mL of a 2 M NaCl stock and need 0.5 M — the calculator tells you the final volume (400 mL) and how much water to add (300 mL).

🍳Cooking / kitchen

Dilute a strong vinegar, broth concentrate or cleaning solution to the strength a recipe calls for. Example: turn a 12% vinegar into a 4% salad dressing — enter 12 → 4 and read off the dilution.

Enter the initial concentration C₁ and initial volume V₁ of your stock solution, the target concentration C₂ you want, then click Calculate. Pick the concentration unit (% , M, mM, mg/mL, ppm …) and the volume unit (µL, mL, L). V₂ = C₁V₁ / C₂ is the total final volume; Solvent to add = V₂ − V₁ is how much diluent (water, buffer …) to add to the stock.
