How IVF Due Dates Are Calculated
Unlike natural conception, IVF gives an exact embryo age — so due dates are more precise. A pregnancy is 266 days from fertilization: for a Day-5 transfer we add 261 days to the transfer date; for a Day-3 transfer, 263 days; from egg retrieval or IUI, 266 days.
Your clinic may adjust the date slightly after the first ultrasound (around 6–8 weeks). Only about 5% of babies arrive exactly on their due date — most are born within two weeks either side.
IVF due date FAQ
How is the IVF due date calculated?
From the embryo transfer date plus a fixed offset (262 days for Day-5, 266 for Day-3 transfer).
Is it more accurate than a period-based date?
Yes — because the exact fertilization/transfer day is known, IVF dating is very precise.
What if I had a frozen embryo transfer (FET)?
Same method — enter the FET date and embryo stage (Day 3 or Day 5).
